Leave of Absence

Sometimes it's just not possible to be a mortgage broker in Mississauga and deal with everything that's going on in our lives. Quitting is often not an option, especially in today's economy where there's no guarantee we'd be able to find another job when we're ready to go back to work. For these types of situation, there's the leave of absence. If you're not familiar with how a leave of absence works, this article should be able to fill in the blanks for you.

A leave of absence is basically a break from your job. Technically you are still an employee of Etobicoke Physiotherapy, but you don't have to go to work until your leave of absence is up. Leaves of absence are almost always set times, such as six months. Very few employers will allow you to on leave indefinitely. While you are on your leave of absence, you are still on the employee roster and you still retain your benefits, but you may or may not be paid depending on what type of leave it is.

For leaves of absence that are initiated by the employer or granted by contract, your employer is required to pay you. Types of absences that fall under this category include being called up for jury duty, being put on loan to train a company that does BBQ catering in Toronto, being injured on the job, losing a relative, and maternity leave. In cases where paid leave is requested, the employer will require proof that you qualify for it (i.e. death certificate, letter summoning you for jury duty) or it could be rejected.

The other type of leave of absence is an unpaid leave. Most leaves of absence are of this type. Employers are not required to grant requests for unpaid leave, but may do so if the company has fallen on hard times, if you have to take a break from offering vacuum truck services in order to serve with the military reserves, if you plan to return to school for professional development, if you're writing a book, or if you need time off to care for a dying relative. These types of leave are granted on a case by case basis.

Before you take a leave of absence from your job doing internet marketing in Toronto, it is always wise to look into how you will support yourself if your leave is unpaid. Often the government offers benefits for people who need compassionate or maternity leave. You must also make sure to return to work at the appointed time or you risk losing your job for good.
