Buying A Second Home

The city of Minneapolis is one of America's greatest cities to consider when searching for a second home or vacation retreat. The Twin City region has an endless amount of waterfront properties available that are all in close distance to downtown Minneapolis. Compared to cities it's size, it has a lot to offer at a great value.

In the city, you will find world-class theater, museums, and sports enveloped in a beautiful, green area. Minneapolis is known for it's creative and dynamic culture. Some would compare it's arts areas with Old Town, Chicago or Cabbage Town, Toronto. The city is considered to be one of the most highly educated and literate cities in the United States.

If you are thinking about buying a second home in the downtown area, there are a number of options for houses and condos. Houses average $200,000. Prices for condos start at around $180,000 (compared to about $200,000 for a Chicago, Portland or Toronto condominium). There are many advantages to buying a condo retreat in the downtown area: you will have access to visit an amazing city while taking-in any lake or part of the beautiful countryside whenever you please.

As for downtown living, there are a number of amazing new units being put onto the market every day. As with hot Oakville real estate the Solstice Condos of Chicago's Spire, the in-demand units suit every style and budget. As a second home, there would be endless things for you and your family to see and do, using your condo as a center-point.

The area has a rich Early and Native American history that will provide you with some amazing outings to landmarks and historical sites. Be sure to consider Oakdale (near White Bear Lake) and Cottage Grove (near River Falls). Sales in those areas are on par with similar ones (such as Toronto's Georgian Bay or New York's Lagrange NY Real Estate) . You can find a waterfront or island property for an average $180,000 there.

A smaller cottage at Balsam Lake or a two acre lot will cost about $100,000 or $170,00 at Lake Ida. Prices are comparable with Mississauga condos near Toronto or on Chicago's East side. As with the Muskoka area of Toronto, second homes in Minneapolis can cost into the millions of dollars in areas like Christmas Lake.

Another popular option in the city is to build your second home yourself. If you are thinking of investing in cottage or farm country, the rural acreage around the region's lakes sells for between $8,000 and $10,000 per acre. You can build a modest but new and beautiful cottage for $250,000 or a farmhouse for $300,000.

You can find amazing properties in and around the city and right across the popular lake regions of Minnesota and Wisconsin. Modern condos and classic homes are all available to you in the city. With it's lakefront cabins, resorts and wide array of recreation spaces of all types, Minneapolis is an ideal place to look at for your second home.
